After the cluster is out, remove the harness connector from the back of the dash and carefully pull it forward towards you. You can get a few inches out of it, just enough to work on it.
Take care to properly release the lock tabs that hold it in place. If you booger them up, it will be hard to connect the cluster and connector back. You can also release the tabs that hold the harness itself for more movement. The connector that plugs into the cluster is numbered 1 - 18 at each wire. Move the following wires as follows:
3 to 2 2 tan w/white stripe brake warning 2 to 13 3 dark blue w/white stripe oil pressure 13 to 3 13 tan fuel gauge
You will need to release the spring clip on the connector with a good stout paper clip. When properly released, the wire will easily pull out.
Before reinstalling, make sure the spring clip is pulled out enough to lock back into the plastic connector. If not, the wire will push out when installing the cluster and will not make contact. Same thing with the cluster connector. Make sure it is properly locked back in.
Put it back together.
You also need to change out the temperature sending unit and replace it with a gauge sender. I have those NEW and GM (Delco) if you need one.
That's it, plain and simple.
Holler if you need more help. With special thanks to Monika
